Church of England Bishops and Civil Partnerships by Andrew Goddard

Andrew Goddard has given what I believe to be a masterly summary of the issues concerning the recent announcement from the House of Bishops concerning civil-partnered clergy and the episcopate.

Read it here.

I am not as a member of the clergy so I don't know the rules on this.

Say a vicar decided to have a couple of other women around the same age as their wife live with them in their vicarage and children started to arrive that looked very similar to the vicar.

Would he not be asked a few searching questions by the Bishop?

Would he be believed if he said that nothing was going on?

Would he be believed if he said that nothing was going on even if no more children were added to the three women one man "partnership"?

  3. First rate. Andrew Goddard's logic is impeccable. The central question remains as yet unanswered - namely will the C of E effect the necessary reform to re-state and implement a biblical position civil partnerships and marriage?
