Repost: "Even a theory of everything has limits"

Lord Rees, the Astronomer Royal, has an article in today's Daily Telegraph that is well worth a read if you're into that sort of thing (and we all should be, to some extent).

However, it also contains a number of questionable statements ("Our brains evolved to cope with the human-scale environment." All together now, "Oh no they didn't" - see the 'Bad Evolution' thread.)

The comments section reveals that most of us have brains that haven't evolved much beyond picking nits (in every sense of the word). What they do show is that we 'god botherers', as one comment calls us, really do bother people. Quite funny, really.

  1. I love Sam Norton's blog in this area:

  2. Much as I like Sam's contributions, there's too much re-writing of the theology. It's as if, having discovered that the picture on my wall was an incredibly detailed painting, not a photo, I now had to reinterpret the image itself.
