Best Saturn yet

This time I managed to capture Saturn with the 'Barlow' magnifier which gives a bigger image.

It also makes it harder, however, to pick up in the viewfinder, so this took some capturing.

If you look very carefully, you can still see Titan, over on the left side of the picture, about a fifth of the way down, as a faint dot. I've cross-checked this with Redshift 5 to establish that is where Titan was at the time. Remember, it is orbiting Saturn, so it won't be where it was last time.

  1. Good job. I like prefer these types of images over stacked and enhanced ones.

  2. Sadly, it is stacked, and enhanced! If you saw the original it looks like an indistinct blur.

The problem is, what the human eye sees cannot be easily captured on a webcam or by a digital camera. The 'moment' of the shot (or video frame) may well be when the image is out of focus, due to atmospheric blurring.

Virtually every image you see will have been digitally composed these days - and in the old days they used long film exposures to the same effect.

    Sorry to disappoint!
