It is unconscionable that secret files should be kept about citizens which are not open to inspection by the citizen herself - and as the Ray Lewis case shows, the Church of England is complicit in this 'culture' too.Mark L. When dealing with A.D. patients in particular, there is a problem of lack of reliable witnesses, and a problem of absentee family members upset over some incident.

You do need to know exactly what has been put in the report in order to cope. In the absence of the information, and in the presence of stress, keep praying.

Your wife is in our prayers. I think the worst thing about all this is the difficulty in finding out what is going on, coupled with the fact that someone is out of work, unable to apply for similar work, and under an obvious cloud of suspicion. It is, as you say, very disturbing, and one wonders how often it happens. The lady at the CRB said, during the telephone conversation, she'd just been dealing with a similar case "with someone called Thomas"!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03590979027426082714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031852996869768738.post-35226941675394613042008-10-22T17:01:00.000+02:002008-10-22T17:01:00.000+02:00John, this seems truly bizarre. As Child Protection bishop in this diocese, I have heard of PoVA as the equivalent of the PoCA list, but administered by the Department of Health, not Education. The only person I ever knew listed on it had it done as part of a long proces arising from a child protection issue involving the police, with rights of representation, disclosure of evidence before listing, and appeal after it. I'd write to my MP, and I'd value knowing how this turns out, because if the PoVA process is shambolic, unjust and abusive that doesn't exactly protect vulnerable adults. Have they got as many guilty people unlisted as innocent people blacklisted? I find this story very disturbing. Please do let us know how it turns out.Bishop Alan Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13879516755776951638noreply@blogger.com
